Celebrating Sea Sunday with Coastal Community and Conservation!

On July 13, 2024, MAST Human was honored to cohost a special Sea Sunday event with the Mission to Seafarers and the Thailand Eagles Club, in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Fisheries, the Guardian of the Sea, and the Mong-Lai Coastal Community.

Led by Rev. Dave Hinay, we began the day with 30-35 dedicated participants joining in a heartfelt morning prayer for seafarers, fishers, and the unsung heroes behind international trade and the seafood industry. The day's activities showcased our shared commitment to preserving marine life and coastal environments.

We released around 60 mother crabs along with millions of bay crabs or zoea back to their sea habitats, supporting the ecosystem's natural balance. By giving one mother crab 4-7 days in the coastal community crab bank, we can nurture up to a million juvenile crabs, with a survival rate of 0.1%, or approximately 1,000 crabs per mother crab released. This is why we love to do this giving them a chance to reproduce again. A beach clean-up followed, where volunteers worked together to protect our precious shores.

A special moment was the delivery of two boats made from recycled plastic to BangNangRom’s conservation group, the Guardian of the Sea. We sponsored the materials, and they dedicated their time and effort to construct these boats, honoring us by naming them MAST Human 1 and 2. These boats will aid in transporting volunteers to plant mangroves in the Bang-Nang-Rom coastal community, where oyster farming thrives thanks to the mangrove forest's water-filtering and purifying powers. On the Sea Sunday celebration, we planted altogether around 1,500 mangroves in a 3,200 sq.m.-muddy plot in the BangNangRom's conservation forest.

The event concluded with a delicious seafood feast sourced from the sustainable artisanal fishery, celebrating the vital role of the Guardian of the Sea and the Mong-Lai coastal community as champions in environmental and sea protection.

🙏 ❤️🙏 We are immensely grateful for the efforts of everyone involved and look forward to continuing our mission of fostering collaboration for social good. Together, we can make a difference!
